Lingual-PACT: information on travel

The Lingual‑PACT 2026 conference will take place from 14–16 October 2026 on Monte Verità above Ascona (Canton Ticino, Switzerland).[1]

Recommended airports for international participants:
- Zurich (ZRH) with many intercontinental and intra‑European connections.[2]
- Milan Malpensa (MXP) with good onward connections towards Lake Maggiore (train/bus).[3]
Indicative price ranges:
- Intercontinental (e.g. North America/Asia → Zurich/Milan): usually around 500–1,200 EUR/CHF in economy class, depending on season and advance purchase.
- European routes (e.g. Berlin/Paris/London → Zurich/Milan): often 120–350 EUR/CHF if booked early, significantly higher at short notice.
Zurich Airport → Monte Verità: From Zurich Airport take a train via Zurich HB – Bellinzona – Locarno; from there continue by bus or taxi to Ascona and then up to Monte Verità (see train/bus section below).[4][2]

The final rail destination is Locarno (SBB station “Locarno” / “Locarno FART”).[3][5]
From Zurich HB there are hourly direct trains or connections with a change in Bellinzona; travel time is about 2.5–3 hours.[4]
Indicative prices Zurich → Locarno: 2nd class standard fare is roughly 40–70 CHF one way; with half‑fare or saver tickets considerably cheaper.

Connection Milan → Ascona/Monte Verità:

From Milano Centrale by Eurocity or RegioExpress to Bellinzona or directly to Locarno (travel time approx. 1.5–2 hours).[5][6]
If the train terminates in Bellinzona, continue by regional train to Locarno (about 30 minutes).[5]
From Locarno station take bus line 1 to “Ascona, Centro/Posta” and then walk or take a taxi up to Monte Verità.[7][8]

Low‑cost route Milan → Ascona:

Milan (e.g. Milano Centrale / Milano Porta Garibaldi) → Ascona: regional train connection towards Lake Maggiore, partly as a direct “Milan – Ascona” relation or via border stations with a short transfer.[9][10][5]
Cheapest online tickets start at around 10 EUR in 2nd class, with a travel time of roughly 1 h 50 – 2 h 20.[10][9]
Other platforms quote price ranges of about 9–14 EUR/CHF for the cheapest connections on this route.[6][11][5]

Regional bus lines (PostAuto / FART) connect Bellinzona – Locarno – Ascona at frequent intervals.[8][4]
Typical route: Train to Bellinzona, continue by regional train or bus to Locarno, then bus line 1 to Ascona, Centro/Posta.[8][4]
Local public transport fares (indicative):
- Locarno → Ascona (bus line 1): approximately 3–6 CHF per trip (depending on fare zone and ticket type).
- Day passes in the Ticino fare network (bus/train): usually about 15–30 CHF per day in 2nd class.
From Ascona town centre up to Monte Verità:
- On foot, about 20–25 minutes uphill along a signposted path.[12][1]
- Taxi Ascona → Monte Verità takes about 10 minutes; typical fares are around 10–25 CHF per ride, depending on provider.

From the north (Zurich / German‑speaking Switzerland / Germany):
- Motorway A2 towards Gotthard – Chiasso, exit “Bellinzona Sud / Locarno”.
- Continue towards Locarno/Ascona, through the tunnel across the Magadino plain to Locarno, then follow the signs to Ascona.[13][14]
From the south (Italy, Milan): Via the motorway through Chiasso or along Lake Maggiore via Brissago – Ascona, always following the signs to Ascona.[3]
Car costs (indicative):
- Swiss motorway vignette: about 40 CHF per year.
- Italian motorway toll sections vary by route; for Milan–Chiasso this is usually a moderate, single‑digit euro amount per direction.
- Parking at/near Monte Verità or in Ascona: for conferences often about 10–20 CHF per day, depending on arrangements with the conference centre/hotel.
Within Ascona → Monte Verità:
- Drive through Ascona towards the old town until the road turns into a pedestrian zone.
- There, turn sharply right uphill and follow the winding roads and the white signs marked “Centro Monte Verità”.[14][13]
- Shortly after Hotel Michelangelo (on the left), follow the round black signs to the conference centre; turn right into the cobblestone road and continue up to the conference complex. Parking spaces are located in front of and behind the main building.[13][14]
